TRAVELLING arts community The Village has unveiled a program for its Canberra debut, which will celebrate the Centenary year with four days of theatre, art and music in Glebe Park.

From March 21-24, The Village’s collection of handmade venues will provide the stage for a range of local and interstate acts.

The program includes works of theatre, cabaret, puppetry, circus, spoken word and much more. There will also be a range of workshops, games and participatory works, including the popular So You Think You Can Interpretive Dance competition.

A major highlight of the program is new work by the 1990s Canberra theatre collective Splinters. The work, titled “Babylon”, will be performed by the disparate Splinters alumni each evening.

Other highlights include “Greedy Boy”, a handmade shadow puppetry show about a cheeky boy who goes too far; “When Claude met Roxy”, a finger puppet show about love gone right; a performance by Dr Neil Potenza MD (PhD), winner of Best Comedy at Melbourne Fringe; a circus from Poncho Circus and Warehouse Circus and The Bally crew; and a collection of local and interstate sideshow and variety works.

The “Go for 2&5 World Kitchen” will be open throughout the four days, featuring cooking demonstrations, food workshops, local produce and cooks. It will culminate at 1pm on Sunday afternoon with an Iron Chef competition.

Entry into The Village is free, with food, drinks and coffee available throughout the four days.
