Tip off leads to missing dinosaur statue

Police-station-0553-175x175A 20-year-old man is assisting police following the recovery of the dinosaur statue removed from the National Dinosaur Museum in Gold Creek late last week.

He has admitted to removing the statue as a birthday prank and was planning to return the statue this evening, said Sgt Marcus Boorman, from Belconnen Patrol, who described the man as contrite and apologetic for his actions.

Acting on a tipoff, police went to a house in Page where the 1.6-metre fibreglass Utahraptor was discovered in a rear sunroom. The statue’s tail had been removed, but was otherwise undamaged.

Officers from the Exhibit Management Centre were called to move the statue to Belconnen Police Station, where the museum owners will pick it up from and return it to its original location.
