SELF-STYLED “troubadour,” the 23-year-old singer, songwriter and guitar virtuoso Daniel Champagne, is  launching  his new album “The Gypsy Moon (Volume 1)” at the Front  in Wattle Street Lyneham  on Thursday.

Champagne calls it “a collection of road songs,” commenting, “well, I’ve been on the road for nearly five years now, that’s a lot of people and places, a lot of ups and downs, a lot of memories; which are all these songs are really made from. This album is just a whole stack of my memories.”

Following in the footsteps of his  musical father, Champagne began writing his own songs at 12, training classically throughout his teens and performing wherever he could, until at age 18 he left school and turned professional.

He is released two independent EPs, “My Own Design” (2009) and “Wide Eyed And Open” (2010) and a  full-length album, “Pint of Mystery,” the latter taking him on tour to North America, the United Kingdom, Europe and New Zealand.

After that, he  was invited to appear on at the Vancouver and Mariposa Folk festivals (Canada), Belgium’s Labadoux Festival and, back home,  the  Port Fairy Folk Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Falls Festival and the Byron Bay Bluesfest.

The “Gypsy Moon” title came from a final farewell made to Daniel by an old friend and alludes to the process of blindly “searching for something that may or may not actually be there, and just putting all your faith on the line as if it is,” he says.
