Ups and downs of writing

TOMORROW evening at Belconnen Arts Centre, October 30, author and assistant professor, Creative Writing at the University of Canberra Tony Eaton discusses the ups and downs of embarking on a career in writing for children and young adults.

The presentation will cover his motivations and creative process, and will include time for informal discussion, questions and answers.

Dr Eaton has been writing professionally for children, young adults, and adults since the late -1990s and to date he has published eleven novels. At the end of 2005 he travelled to Antarctica to research his novel “Into White Silence” which received an Honour Book Prize in the 2009 Children’s Book Council of Australia awards and a short listing in the Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards.

In late 2011, Random House Australia will publish a literary edition of “Into White Silence.”

His “Darklands” trilogy has been shortlisted and awarded in the Aurealis Awards for Australian Speculative Fiction. The final book of the trilogy, “Daywards”, was released by UQP in March 2010, and was a Children’s Book Council of Australia notable Australian Children’s book in 2011. He is the Vice President of the Australasian Children’s Literature Association for Research.
