Swing and New Orleans jazz come to town

GETTING 11 professional Sydney-based musos on the road with two champion dancers is always going to be an interesting exercise in logistics, say members of The Big Ol Bus Band, who are coming to play at the Southern Cross Club on Thursday, en route to Albury, Leeton, and Tumut.

The band’s leader, Hugh Scott Murray, has written with several Grammy award winners, including Keith Urban, the late Lou Rawls and INXS, but his first love is swing and New Orleans music, which is what the band is all about.

They’ve recently been playing to big crowds at the Darling Harbour Jazz Festival, and Manly Jazz Festival, but haven’t been here since 2010 when they performed a set at Floriade.

This will be their first full show in Canberra.

“The Big Ol Bus Band,” Canberra Southern Cross Club Thursday October 18. Bookings to 6283 7200.
