Young comedian wins a shot at fame

YOUNG Canberra comedian Tim Noon took out the first local heat of RAW Comedy at Tilley’s Cafe in Lyneham on Saturday night.

Tim will now progress to the NSW finals in March.  If successful there, he will go on to the grand final on April 14 at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

A second Canberra heat will be held on March 9 at the same venue.

The Melbourne grand final is broadcast on ABC1 and the winner gets a coveted spot at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Past RAW Comedy winners and finalists who have gone onto successful careers in comedy include Chris Lilley, Josh Thomas, Peter Helliar, Tom Ballard, Claire Hooper and Tim Minchin.

Among the judging panel for the first Canberra heat was CityNews journalist Stephen Easton.

Tim Noon is performing in the first Canberra Comedy Festival as part of the show “Irresponsible”, with Simon Bower, Shahed Sharify and Harris Stuckey on March 22. Go to canberracomedyfestival.com.au for details.
