LIMESTONE Consort is welcoming alto Maartje Sevenster and organist James Porteous to join them for a fundraising concert in St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Braidwood this Sunday, August 17.

Ticket sales will go towards the restoration of St Andrew’s organ, built in Adelaide by W.G. Rendall in 1904 and rebuilt by L.S. Waters in 1975.

Porteous is sub-organist at St Paul’s Anglican Church in Manuka and will perform Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in G major BWV 541 and the Sinfonia from Cantata BWV 169 “Gott soll allein mein Herze haben”, based on a lost concerto of Bach’s for oboe or flute, probably written during his time in Köthen.

Sevenster completed her BMus in 2011 in the Netherlands, studying with Roberta Alexander, Frans Huyts and Connie de Jongh. She joins Limestone to perform “Nisi Dominus”, Vivaldi’s setting in 9 movements of Psalm 127. This piece also features the rarely heard 7-stringed Viola d’amore, played by Ross Mitchell from the Elysium Ensemble.

Limestone Consort is a Canberra ensemble which formed in 2012 out of a desire to perform baroque chamber music. It’s by violinist Lauren Davis, who teaches at the Riverina Conservatorium in Wagga Wagga and will perform at Wesley Music Centre next Wednesday.
