THE ongoing 80th birthday party for Professor Larry Sitsky, Canberra’s most famous composer, continues tomorrow at the National Library of Australia, where the eminent music curator, Robyn Holmes, Sitsky’s former colleague at the ANU School of Music will hold court in the conference room with a conversation about his long musical career.
While Sitsky marked his actual birthday on September 10 at a gala function at in Hobart, where his first opera, “The Fall of the House of Usher,” had been performed, Canberra has been taking notice too.
The week before last. A select group of carillon lovers enjoyed a lunchtime recital of music composed by Sitsky for that instrument at the National Carillon.
Tomorrow, Wednesday there will be ample opportunity for audience members to ask Sitsky questions, in the formal proceedings and afternoon tea that will follow the conversation.
