Arts in the city: Big noise from summer music camp

CONDUCTOR and outspoken music advocate, Richard Gill, will be the music director for the 2014 Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp in Canberra. This will be the largest National Music Camp ever, with performances ranging from Tchaikovsky’s “Romeo and Juliet” to new works by Australian composers Philip Jameson and Andrew Howes. Alongside Gill, the camp will be driven by brilliant tutors and notable conductors such as Alexandre Bloch and Geoffrey Lancaster. BUNGENDORE Wood Works is continuing its 30th Year Anniversary celebrations into 2014 with a double-headed exhibition until January 28 of fine furniture and woodwork by master craftsman David Upfill-Brown and paintings by landscape artist Tony Richardson. Upfill-Brown ran a bespoke furniture workshop in Tharwa from 1982 to 1999 before becoming academic director of the Australian School of Fine Furniture in Tasmania.

A GROUP of Braidwood writers led by Billie Dean and Andrew Einspruch are staging an immersive weekend for writers to be held on the weekend of January 11-12.
