BILK Gallery’s first exhibition opening for 2014, opening this evening, is intended to showcase the artists that keep the wheels turning at this boutique gallery specialising in fine jewellery and glass.
“SOME of you may not realise that the people that ‘man the shop’ are also makers themselves,” the directors are saying.
“Encounter” introduces the co-directors, Lisa Cahill, Helen Aitken- Kuhnen and Mio Kuhnen, in a uniquely satisfying way, by showing off their art.
Cahill’s pieces include beautiful sensitive carved glass panels. Inspired by nature and the transitory nature of human existence the panels echoing nature and reflections.
Aitken Kuhnen shows a new series of enamelled brooches reflecting summertime in Canberra.
Mio Kuhnen’s pieces reflecting fluvial deltas and meandering rivers. The pieces capture the motion of water and sediment, eroding the river bed.
In exactly the same manner, it introduces the gallery’s assistants Zoe Brand, Sarah Murphy, Sandie Lee and Larah Nott, with works ranging from glass, conceptual pieces, traditional precious metals, enamelling and ‘rapid prototype’.
“Encounter” at Bilk – Gallery for contemporary metal and glass, Palmerston Lane Manuka, open Tuesday by appointment, Wednesday – Thursday 11-5, Friday 11-7 and Saturday 11-4. Opening 6pm today, February 7, all welcome.
