Bomb squad is out at a Holder child care centre

police

ACT Policing is investigating a suspicious package located at the front gate of a child care centre in Holder this morning (Thursday, November 13).

About 7.55am, ACT Policing received the report of the suspicious package at the YMCA Early Learning Centre (ELC) on Dixon Drive.

ACT Policing provided a coordinated response and cordoned the area as a standard safety precaution.

Police have evacuated the centre and implemented road closures on Dixon Drive between Mulley Street and Streeton Drive.

Members of the AFP Bomb Response Team are in attendance examining the package.

Parents of children at the YMCA ELC are asked to attend the Montessori School car park on Mulley Street to collect their children.

UPDATE: Police media inform us the package has been “rendered safe”, usually a euphemism for “blown to smithereens”:

The package has been rendered safe by the Bomb Response Team.

All roads are open however access to the child care centre is restricted.

Investigations are continuing.

I rocked up to offload the offspring as the cops were arriving. The suspicious package didn’t look that suspicious, more like a pile of rubbish someone had dumped instead of paying tip fees.
