Royal’s Jones wins Japanese tournament

Brendan Jones.
ROYAL Canberra golfer Brendan Jones has claimed his second Japan Golf Tour event of the season, winning the Sun Chlorella Classic in Hokkaido.

Brendan has made it 12 Japan Tour titles with a two-shot victory for a final round of 70.

On a golf course where he also went so close to winning three years ago, Brendan trailed into the final round, but by the turn he was ahead although a bogey at the 10th and a birdie by Yoshinobu Tsukada had the Japanese player back in the lead.

Brendan birdied the par five 13th and added another at the last to secure the victory.

It appears the victory may have earned Brendan a start at the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island in two weeks time, but he is yet to decide what he will do in that regard.

This win puts him in the lead on the 2012 money list, with winnings of $A875,000.  Jones first won this tournament in 2003 and his latest victory was his 12th on the Japan Golf Tour and takes his career earnings there to more then $A9 million.
