Don’t panic about the ActewAGL helicopters

ACTEWAGL is letting people know they’ll have people out in helicopters inspecting powerlines to make sure they won’t start bushfires.

“There is an increased risk of bushfires in the capital this year, as additional rainfall has led to overgrown vegetation and grass in many open areas,” General Manager Asset Management Stephen Devlin said.

“As well as inspecting powerlines from the ground throughout Canberra we also use helicopter patrols that fly approximately 250 metres above ground to carry out inspections.

“We’re asking people to be vigilant and report serious hazards to us. People can also do their bit on their own properties. Trees and vegetation need to be a minimum distance of 1.5 metres away from powerlines. If trees and vegetation are within 1.5 metres, only ActewAGL accredited tree surgeons are authorised to cut them back from powerlines.”
