Gas leak at the hospital

Firefighters are currently investigating a gas leak at the ANU School of Medicine, The Canberra Hospital, Hospital Road, Garran.

ACT Fire & Rescue has evacuated Building Four and the National Capital Building as a precaution whilst crews investigate the leak.

The leak has been isolated and firefighters are conducting air monitoring operations to ensure the area is safe for staff to return.

Correction- National Capital Building was NOT evacuated.

Approximately 300 people have been evacuated from building four and five.

Three fire pumpers, the Hazardous Materials Unit, Breathing Apparatus Van and two Commanders are on scene.

Time of Emergency Triple Zero (000) call 12.52pm.

Firefighters have given the all-clear and students and residents are now allowed to return to the area.

Gas line was ruptured by workmen in the area.

ACT Fire & Rescue due to depart the scene shortly.
