The program includes the Australian piece “From Kakadu” by the late Peter Sculthorpe, the calming BWV 1003 by JS Bach, and Vicente Asendio’s “Collectici intim,” full of vibrant Spanish colour.

Henshaw started playing guitar at the age of six and has learned from talented teachers like Carolyn Kidd, Daniel McKay and Minh Le Hoang. In 2013, he completed his honours degree in guitar performance, for which he received first class honours, at the Australian National University’s School of Music under the tutelage of Tim Kain. In 2012, he released his first commercial recording, an EP with works from J.S. Bach, Nigel Westlake, and Vicente Asencio.

As part of his studies, Henshaw performs regularly at the School of Music, and often plays in Canberra’s various music venues. He has performed four times at the Canberra International Music Festival, as a solo artist, giving the premiere performance of a Peter Sculthorpe work for guitar and string orchestra, and as part of his duo with Andrew Blanch.

He recently returned from a trip around Europe, competing in Germany, Slovakia and Albania where he won first prize in the Tirana International Guitar Competition. Last month he was placed third in the Adelaide International Guitar Competition, the only Australian prize-winner.
