Harry’s Autocare cops to dodgy brake tests

ORS

THE Office of Regulatory Services has published an undertaking by Blue Kombi trading as Harry’s Autocare located at 9 Oatley Court Belconnen, over the compliance failings of their brake testing.

On 4 June 2014 Office of Regulatory Services (ORS) audit officers conducted a site visit at Harry’s Autocare, 9 Oatley Crt. Belconnen. A number of brake test slips were examined. The data and graphical configuration on the test slips indicate that the readings were obtained by the machine being used contrary to the manufacturer’s instructions. There are a number of established indicators that are used to determine the validity of a brake test and, upon analysis, it is apparent that these indicators were not present for these tests.

During the 2 month period up to 4 June 2014, a total of 145 false brake tests were conducted at Harry’s Autocare. These inspections were carried out by Authorised Examiners employed by Blue Kombi and resulted in the production of falsified brake test readings that purportedly indicate that the brakes have passed inspection.

Harry’s Autocare have undertaken to improve their quality assurance and remind staff of what needs to be done. They’re also making a $5,000 donation to SnowyHydro SouthCare.
