The Campsite Blog has an excellent piece by Canberra’s John Price on his failed bid to climb the previously unconquered Anidesha Chuli mountain in Nepal.

I sat there in The Rum Doodle, a bar and restaurant famous amongst climbers, drinking a few too many Gorkhas – a Nepali Beer. It was a hopeless attempt to suppress the battle of failure and success that had been raging in my mind over the last few weeks. The camera being passed between young travellers at a nearby table told me they had finished the ever popular Annapurna Circuit. One of the most popular treks in the world, it is a relatively easy hike, equipped with tea houses (some even hosting WIFI) the entire way. I felt the elitist climber mindset creeping in, but made it stop. I’m not that person. I respect what makes others tick.

And then I laughed to myself at the irony, envious of their contentment, their fulfillment, satisfaction and happiness.
