The Mint takes out the Comcare 2014 health and safety awards

The Mint

THE Royal Australian Mint has been recognised for its health and safety at the annual Comcare Awards in Melbourne.

The Mint was declared the winner of the Workplace Health and Safety Management System category for the Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS) which was implemented over the past three years.

“The Mint has been continually improving its HSE management system and to be recognised with a 2014 Comcare Award is a great achievement for all involved,” Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager Stephen Cook said.

The Mint also received a commendation for its health initiative WellMint, a program that engages Mint staff and encourages healthy lifestyles and exercise at the workplace and home.

The Mint was also a finalist in the Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Hazard award category for work conducted around the Mint’s coloured ink jet printing processes.

The Mint designed and manufactured a proprietary, fully-integrated system, which reduces staff exposure to ink chemicals, fumes and to reduce repetitive tasks.

Royal Australian Mint CEO Ross MacDiarmid said the Mint is as proud of these achievements as it is of the awards won for their coins.

“As a manufacturer, we are keenly aware of the health and safety of our employees and our impact on the Environment. Being recognised for the work that we do to ensure that we can operate as a mint while keeping such impacts to a minimum is a great achievement.
