NRMA celebrates the coming of Costco Petrol

costco

PETROL prices have fallen a dramatic 20 cents a litre in Canberra with Costco opening up its petrol bowsers to Canberra Costco members. Costco at Majura Park is selling unleaded petrol at 129 cents a litre – a dramatic 20 cents a litre less than the average price of 149 cents a litre recorded in Canberra last week.

The nearby Woolworths Caltex service station has dropped its price to match Costco today. It has been almost five years since Canberra motorists have seen petrol at that price.

NRMA local Director Alan Evans said the impact of real competition on the Canberra market was immediate and dramatic.

“For years the supermarket-aligned service stations have treated NRMA Members in the ACT like mugs – not anymore,” Alan said.

“The NRMA has been fighting for more competition in the ACT because we knew that the ultimate result would be fairer prices for local motorists. Today, we have been vindicated.

“The formula for the supermarket chains now is simple – either you match these competitive prices or you’ll be out of business in no time at all.

“And to Costco the NRMA message is simple – if you continue to offer these competitive prices local motorists in the ACT will support you, because we have been crying out for years for some real competition at the pump.”
