Opera scholarship for Canberra’s Chloe Robbins

A year 12 student at Burgmann Anglican School, Chloe Robbins, won an Opera Australia inaugural Regional Student Scholarship.

Chloe is one of four recipients selected from over 100 applicants from around regional New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT.

Ms Robbins will receive professional training from artistic, music, language and drama coaches at Opera Australia during January 2015; spend time backstage at the Sydney Opera House, gaining insight into the working life of opera singers; and will also have the (nerve-wracking!) opportunity to perform for Artistic Director, Lyndon Terracini AM.

Launched as a new initiative this year, the Regional Student Scholarship expands Opera Australia’s community engagement activities in the regions that it visited as part of the 2014 Regional Tour. Together with Education Workshops and Opera Australia’s Regional Children’s Chorus, Opera Australia presents a range of ways for students and families to connect with opera, both as audiences and as performers-in-waiting.
