Popular brooch exhibition at ANCA

ANCA Gallery is about to stage its most popular annual exhibition so we’ll excuse the incredibly corny title, “PIN-a-4” for the annual exhibition of artist-made brooches.

Fortuitously, this exhibition of miniature wearable works by local, regional and interstate artists comes just in time for Mother’s Day.

“PIN-a-4” is the fourth annual brooch exhibition ANCA Gallery has held, following on from the successes of the inaugural PIN “Wonderwall” in 2011, “rePIN” in 2012, and “PINup” in 2013.

According to gallery manager, Annika Harding, “the concept of reducing scale and honing in on a wearable, miniature platform appealed to artists from a broad range of practices such as sculptors, printmakers, painters, silversmiths, photographers, wood-workers and glass artists.” The results, she believes, are both accessible and intimate.

Participating artists this year include Ampersand Duck, Jacqueline Bradley, Rebecca Hinwood, Christina Thwaites, Marisa Molin, Steven Worthington, Heike Qualitz, Sarah Farquhar-Still, Alison Jackson, Lia Tajcnar and Sui Jackson.

With a broad range of makers, materials  and prices, you can fairly bet many will sell at the opening  Wednesday evening. I’m a brooch fan,  so I’ll be there.

“PIN-a-4,” at ANCA Gallery, 1 Rosevear Place, Dickson, April 30 to May 11, Wednesday-Sunday 12pm-5pm. The opening event is this Wednesday, April 30, from 6pm to 8pm – all are welcome.
