THE Canberra Symphony Orchestra kicks off this Saturday, February 15, with music from France in the Shell Prom, always staged in the much-loved gardens of Government House.
Conducted by Timothy Sexton, it will feature Opera South Australia singers, Gisele Blanchard and Catriona Barr, performing arias from the French repertoirelike the “Lakme” Flower Duet (as featured in the British Airways commercial).
16 year old violinist Anna Da Silva Chen will make her CSO debut, and the Telopea Park School choir will sing French choral favourites.
The event has the French Ambassador, Stéphane Romatet, rejoicing—“This wonderfully festive picnic concert presents an opportunity to reflect upon, and celebrate, the triumph of humanity over adversity, particularly relevant as we commemorate the centenary of WW1 in Europe.”
