Suspected Ikea site gets planning approval

SIMON Corbell has announced planning approval for a “bulky goods store” near Canberra Airport.

This site and process has long been suspected to be Ikea’s much anticipated entry to the Canberra market.

“A large a block of land near the airport has been approved for bulky goods retailing, warehousing, freight and distribution,” Simon Corbell said.

“The approval of Variation 324 to the Territory Plan (V 324) effectively rezones part of Block 4 Section 9 and Block 2 Section 12 Pialligo from broadacre to industrial mixed use.

“By rezoning land currently being used as a soil stockpile site for the construction of the Majura Parkway, the government has ensured the ACT will continue to provide ongoing economic and employment opportunities in the region,” Mr Corbell said.

The approved variation is available online.
