Yarralumla and Springbank Island burns today

Controlled burn

The ACT Rural Fire Service will today conducted a hazard reduction burn to clear debris at Stirling Park in Yarralumla

The small burn will target grass and piles of vegetation previously cleared by the National Capital Authority.

Dependent on wind conditions, some smoke may affect the area.

It is normal for stumps and heavy logs to continue to smoulder. Staff will continue to monitor the burn until no smoke is visible for 24 hours.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.

UPDATE: An additional burn is now planned for Springbank Island in Lake Burley Griffin.
