4am evacuation for Braddon apartment residents

FIREFIGHTERS are currently conducting ventilation operations at the Ori Apartments, Lonsdale Street, Braddon following an unattended fire on a stove top in a kitchen of a cafe.

ACT Fire & Rescue were notified following an Automatic Fire Alarm at 3.46am and extinguished the fire on the ground floor.

Approximately 70 residents have been evacuated from all four floors of the building.

Damage estimated at $20,000 and contained to the kitchen area of cafe with some smoke logging to adjacent businesses.

Three fire pumpers, the Breathing Apparatus Van, the Hazardous Materials Unit and one Commander are on scene.

All residents have been allowed to return to the building and there were no injuries.

The business was closed at the time of the fire.
