A new chair and board for CIT

JOY Burch has announced the appointment of a new Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) Board comprising eight members, including a chair and deputy chair, and the CIT Chief Executive.

While remaining ACT’s public provider of vocational education and training (VET), this significant change for CIT under the Canberra Institute of Technology Amendment Act 2014, passed in the Legislative Assembly in November, will enable the institute to operate competitively in an increasingly business-focused VET environment.

“I have full confidence in the board, which will bring a range of specific and broad expertise in business and industry functions and processes, and which I have appointed to ensure CIT has the flexibility and agility to thrive as a quality provider of VET in the ACT in a rapidly changing market,” Ms Burch said.

“The CIT Governing Board will take the fiduciary responsibility for CIT and allow for streamlining of decisions now, and into the future, to meet the needs of students and industry.

The new members of the CIT Governing Board are:

  • Chair – Mr Craig Sloan
  • Deputy Chair – Ms Michelle Melbourne
  • Member – Prof. Stephanie Fahey
  • Member – Mr Peter McGrath
  • CIT Staff Member – Ms Anita Wesney
  • CIT Student Member – Mr Kent Chambers
  • Director-General of Education and Training Directorate
  • Director-General of Economic Development Directorate

The board will begin its responsibilities as the decision making body of CIT from 1 July 2015.

“I sincerely thank the members of the outgoing CIT Council for their dedication and hard work in positioning CIT to take this important step and I look forward to continuing to work with CIT under the new governance arrangements,” Ms Burch concluded.
