Amaroo house burnt down

fire

A HOUSE in Amaroo has been extensively damaged this morning in a fire.

ACT Fire & Rescue responded to the property in Traine Court with three fire pumpers, breathing apparatus support crew and commander after the alarm was raised at 11:36pm last night.

When fire crews arrived the home was well alight.

The roof partially collapsed before firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze. They’re now dealing with any remaining hot spots.

The sole occupant of the home was woken up and alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm. He safely self evacuated with several neighbours ringing Emergency Triple Zero (000).

The man was not injured.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage but will be investigated. The initial estimated damage bill is over $300,000.
