As the mercury drops Safe Shelter returns

SAFE Shelter for homeless men opens on April 28, operating on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights until October 1.

The Shelter operates in the Lewis Hall, St Columba’s Uniting Church, 10 Fawcett Street, Braddon from 7.00 pm until 7.00 am on each of those nights, with doors closed to new arrivals after 10.00 pm.

Up to 8 guests sleep on the foor along with with 3 volunteers, on either their own bedding or on a Streetswag supplied by Safe Shelter. Guests are admitted on a “first come” basis.

Over 50 volunteers have already completed their two night training courses, about 40% of them female. Many volunteers are returning, having worked in the Shelter in 2014. More volunteers are registered to undergo training in May, June and July, ready to fll gaps in the rosters as winter progresses.
