JUST this afternoon a cold caller tried to socially engineer my credit card details and I thought it worthy of sharing as a warning to others.
It sounded like a lot of other call centre calls, a dropout at the start of the call and a woman with an Indian accent on the line.
She was letting me know my NRMA roadside assistance cover had lapsed and would I like to renew? Just $110 and she could handle it right there and then.
Before handing over my credit card details a little alarm bell rang in my head and I asked “what car is the cover for?” when she answered “a 1992 red Nissan” I hung up as I’ve never had any car remotely like that.
Of course if her data mining operation had my rego (not a hard secret to divine) they might have got me.
