Canberra’s bicycle swap meet “Buycycle” launched

SHANE Rattenbury has launched the Canberra Buycycle market, an initiative run by the Rotary Club of Canberra, where the public can buy and sell pre-loved bicycles for great prices.

“Canberra Buycycle is a great opportunity for Canberrans to sell or donate bikes that are cluttering up their garages and to turn those unwanted bikes into cash,” Shane said.

“It is also a great place to pick up a cheap new bike or upgrade your existing bike.

“Not only is cycling a money saver, it also allows people to find their 30 minutes of physical activity for the day. The ACT Government is committed to supporting a healthy and active community and we want to make it easier for Canberrans to make healthy lifestyle choices.

“The market day will be held at the Fitters Workshop next to Bus Depot Markets at the Kingston Foreshore on Sunday 18 October 2015 from 9 am to 2 pm. Those who want to sell or donate a bike can do so on Saturday October 17 from 1 pm to 4 pm.

“This is the first year the market has been held, but we are expecting bikes of all different shapes and sizes to be donated, including road bikes, mountain bikes, BMX bikes and kids’ bikes that cover every price range.

“Any unsold bikes will be given to ‘Bikes 4 Life’, a charity which donates pushbikes to remote or impoverished communities in Australia and overseas.

“There will be a special test area where you can ride before you buy. Get in early before choice becomes limited. Admission to Canberra Buycycle is $2, whilst kids under 12 will be admitted free.”
