Canberra’s new fire chief arrives

JOY Burch has welcomed the ACT’s new Fire & Rescue Chief Officer Mark Brown to Canberra with a tour of fire stations.

“I welcome Mark Brown to the ACT and look forward to working closely with him,” Joy said.

“He brings to ACT Fire & Rescue a wealth of experience working in New South Wales on the front line and in managerial roles.

“Mr Brown spent over 30 years working in New South Wales as a firefighter and officer, has planning and command experience at emergency incidents and natural disasters, experience with urban search and rescues and operating Triple Zero call centres. He also spent time on secondment in Western Australia.

“I’ve only been in Canberra a short time but have been impressed with what I’ve seen so far,” Mark said.

“I will be learning as quickly as possible to get an understanding of what the community expects from the ACT Fire & Rescue service.

“ACT Fire & Rescue is highly regarded around Australia and my key aim will be to ensure the service continually improves and the needs of the community and firefighters are met.”

Today Joy and Mark are touring some of the ACT’s Fire & Rescue stations, checking out the equipment and facilities provided to firefighters.
