THE BIGGER-THAN-BEN HUR Australian Ceramics Triennial finishes this weekend with the Ceramics Triennial Market Place, at the Gandel Hall, National Gallery of Australia, 11am to 4pm, this Sunday, July 12, all welcome. Free guided tours of the Australian Decorative Arts at noon and 2pm.

INDIGENOUS artist James Tylor has been visiting PhotoAccess in the Manuka Arts Centre from Adelaide to present his exhibition “Un-resettling”, and Chris Bennie has been here from the Gold Coast to present his unusual work “The Waves + Control Rooms”, made during an Asialink residency to Japan last year. Both explore confrontations between humans and the natural world and the show is recommended. Runs until July 26.


SHORTIS & Simpson’s “A Strong Constitution” explores the language, the stories, the cases, the implications of the work of our founding fathers. Sections of the constitution are sung in all sorts of styles- reggae, rock ‘n’ roll, torch song, samba, and more. TERENCE Maloon is curator, art historian and director of the ANU Drill Hall Gallery. He’s giving a series of six lectures, “The Fabulous Adventure of Cubism”, on Sunday afternoons at 3pm Manning Clark Centre, ANU, to help raise funds for the refurbishing of the Drill Hall. ‘CHOIR’ is a new singing crew in Canberra that’s fun, young, and dabs in all kinds of contemporary music. Started in 2014 the group, led by Olivia Swift, sings a repertoire spanning folk, rock, and jazz tunes. At the Front, Wattle St Lyneham, 8pm today, July 9, $5 at the door.


ALSO at the Front, tomorrow July 10, is Lachlan Morris, song-writing force in several Newcastle bands and gigging tirelessly since the age of 16. Morris has released ‘Resurrector’, his first creation under his own name.


CHILD Players ACT is staging Roald Dahl’s “The BFG” (Big Friendly Giant) the company’s tenth July production directed by BJ Anyos. 40 children aged between 10-16 perform at theatre@bcs, Belconnen Community Centre, Swanson Court, Belconnen, until July 18. DAVID Broker’s new show “Innerspace” opens at 6 pm, tomorrow Friday July 10 at Canberra Contemporary Art Space in Ainslie + Gorman Art Centre, 55 Ainslie Avenue, Braddon. For hundreds (if not thousands) of years artists have looked to the heavens with a sense of awe and wonder but for Christopher Bennie, Jacqueline Bradley, Ham Darroch, Shellaine Godbold, Ellis Hutch, Claire Pendrigh-Elliott, Rusty Peters and Jed Wolki the cosmos is simply at home. Tuesday to Friday 11am to 5pm Saturday 10am to 4pm until August 15.


FORMER ASOC president Tim Hardy’s first solo exhibition, “Encounters,” opens on Sunday July 12 at 3pm in the Old School House Gallery, Sweet Copper Cafe in Gold Creek and runs to August 23, Thurs-Fri 10-4 and Sat, Sun 8.30-4.30pm.
