Following the ACT Government’s response to the Loxton review of arts funding, which saw the establishment of three artistic hubs in Canberra dedicated to visual, musical and performing arts, the Inner South phenomenon has also been the beneficiary of happy accident in the form of existing and commercial arts outlets.

At all events, tomorrow evening, Friday, December 11, the main players in the burgeoning Inner South arts scene, PhotoAccess, ArtSound FM, Bilk Gallery, Canberra Contemporary Artspace Manuka, Canberra Glassworks, M16 Artspace and Megalo Print Studio + Gallery, are turning on a massive party that features ‘Art After Dark’ and ‘Art + Ride’.

We feel bound to point out that with Daylight Saving, the chances of actually encountering  art in the darkness are limited, but it should be fun anyway.

‘Art After Dark’ will see each arts organisation stay open until 8pm, with lots of exciting activities, while in ‘Art + Ride, M16’s exhibitions and promotions coordinator Kirsten Farrell will be leading the charge of arty cyclists as they blaze around the ‘Arts Hubs’. Join Farrell at Bilk Gallery, Palmerston Lane Manuka at 5pm, to start things off. Riders are encouraged to ride in ‘active wear.’

Events on the night include:

PhotoAccess, Manuka Arts Centre, end-of-year drinks and late night exhibition viewing of ‘Akin to Lust’ by Hayley Boyle, ‘A Place Within’ by Thea McGrath and ‘Silver and Gold’ by David Flanagan;

Artsound FM, Manuka Arts Centre, tour of Artsound FM studios. An opportunity to record a Promo in a studio and take a selfie in the presenter’s seat;
