Downer school site to be developed

THE former Downer Primary School is to be the development site for a range of residential options from townhouses, apartments and independent living units as well as childcare facilities and limited-use commercial space.

Launching the project today, CHC Affordable Housing says the development is the culmination of four years’ engagement with the ACT Government, Downer Community Association and the community at large.

CEO of CHC Affordable Housing, Kim Sinclair says: “CHC at Downer is an exciting project in that it has been informed by the community and will be delivered by a community organisation for the community.  This mixed-use development enables CHC to breathe new life into the centre of the suburb, support the revitalisation of the local Downer shops, preserve heritage aspects of the site and deliver on its mission to provide affordable housing for low to moderate income earners across Canberra.”

Preservation of the old school courtyard space is also being incorporated into the design based on community feedback.
