‘Extravaganza’ in Brass

‘A YOUTH Brass Extravaganza’ is how Canberra Brass Inc. is describing its first annual Youth Workshop for young players and percussion players.

Aimed at young players aged 12-19 in the ACT and Capital Region, the workshop will be the first-step in establishing the first Youth Brass Band in the ACT and the region next year.

The idea is to provide young brass and percussion players with a taste of what they can expect with the formation of the region’s first-ever youth brass band, providing a mix of entertaining but high level competitive playing.

A selection of Canberra’s top brass musicians will introduce participants to new and entertaining music as well as some traditional testing brass band pieces.

All interested participants must pre-register for the workshop online. Entry to the workshop is $5 per participant which includes lunch and morning tea. Participants will be introduced to the world of brass bands with a series of rehearsals and sectional activities before putting on a short concert for friends and family at 2pm. Following the workshop and concert, participants will be invited to one hour rehearsals on Monday nights at Radford College, Bruce from November 16 until the conclusion of the school year.

The workshop coincides with the weekend of this year’s annual concert for Canberra Brass in partnership with the Canberra Burns Club Pipes and Drums.
