Floriade turns to storytelling this weekend

THERE may be a sombre theme for Floriade in the notion of WWI “Reflection,” but there’s plenty of art and entertainment to go with it.

The Floriade program this weekend turns the spotlight on storytelling as Gretel Killeen shares the story of a career and life that she says is only just beginning, in the Inspiration Hub at 11am, noon and 1pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Also the Inspiration Hub throughout the weekend is a “collision of fashion and flowers” in the “Horti-Couture: Stories of Canberra exhibition”. Visitors can also discover the stories of Australians who have been awarded Churchill Trust fellowships and travelled overseas to learn more in the fields of history, music, science, art, health and more.

Floriade’s roving performers, like comedy act Flycycle, musician Justin Sane and the circus-show extravaganza Le Petit Circus, are out and about.

And in Kids’ Corner children can meet the animals from Matilda’s Farmyard and learn how to make healthy snacks from 10:00am-4:00pm, while looking at the question of shelter in “PLAY UP”, 11am to 3pm in a Museum of Australian Democracy Old Parliament House pop-up exhibition.
