Government co-owned ActewAGL wins Government electricity contracts

andrew barr

CHIEF Minister Andrew Barr says ActewAGL Retail has won the competitive tender process to supply all the ACT Government’s electricity needs for the next four years.

Three contracts were available: large sites (such as hospitals and offices), small sites (such as preschools) and unmetered (streetlights, traffic lights and parking machines). Three power supply companies, including Queensland based ERM Power, which held the large site contract for the last two years, tendered and were assessed by an experienced team of senior ACT Government officials.

“Criteria for the tender included best value for money, contract management expertise and capacity to deliver the required services. It is excellent news for Canberra that a local company is the most competitive and best value for money,” Andrew said.

“As part of the contracted services, ActewAGL will provide high quality reports which will allow the ACT Government to better analyse and understand its power usage which will result in more efficient management of our energy needs.

“The contract, valued at $40 million, commenced on 1 January 2015 and will run until the end of 2018.

“The decision to enter into a four year contract was made as changes to federal legislation relating to the electricity market provide greater certainty for retailers and consumers than when the contract was last let for two years from 2013 to 2014.

“I thank ERM Power for the professional manner in which it worked with the ACT Government for the period in which it held the contract for the larger government sites.”
