Gungahlin drive to be widened

Mick-GentlemanMick-Gentleman

MICK Gentleman says tenders are currently open for the upgrade of a 1.6 kilometre section of Gungahlin Drive.

“Gungahlin Drive will be widened to three lanes southbound from north of Sandford Street through to the Barton Highway. The left turn lane from Well Station Drive onto Gungahlin Drive will also be duplicated and signalised,” Mick said.

“Designs for the upgrade were completed in May 2015 and we are now calling for expressions of interest from companies for construction.

“The upgrade will increase capacity on this busy corridor, easing congestion and improving travel movements onto the Barton Highway.

“As well as providing benefits to the community upon completion, the upgrade will also help manage traffic during construction of the Capital Metro project.

“The ACT Government recognises that road infrastructure must support the growing Gungahlin region and meet its transport needs and this is just one of the many current and future projects to help build an integrated transport network.

“Construction of the third lane is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2015 and take approximately 12 months to complete,” Minister Gentleman concluded.
