FLICKERFEST is Australia’s leading Academy-accredited and BAFTA-recognised short film festival.

This Thursday March 19, Flickerfest will be screening an award-winning range of what they say are the hottest short films in the world, followed by complimentary ‘networking’ drinks. This year Flickerfest is screening a range of stories from across Australia that celebrate our unique identity and culture, including a number of award-winning films.

Shot in Cooma by Canberra-born and bred writer/director Sean Kruck, “Snowblind” has won the ‘Canon Award For Best Direction’ at Flickerfest 2015. Set in the late 1970s, 16-year-old Jack has dreams of emulating his Kiss idol, Ace Frehley, and winning the affection of his teenage neighbour, Paige. Over the course of a weekend Jack negotiates love, his family and the slippery slope of adolescence.

Then there’s the witty “Bush Mechanics,” telling the story of four young Warlpiri men on a journey to visit a powerful elder living at a remote outstation. As they drive across the red dirt roads of the central Australian desert they must overcome mechanical mishaps and the trickery of a mischievous Munga Munga spirit.

In the comedy, “Florence Has Left The Building” starring an unrecognisable Jacki Weaver, it’s the annual Christmas eve concert at the Marigold House Assisted Living Facility. When the facility double books two rival Elvis impersonators, Florence takes the opportunity for one last hurrah.

“Grey Bull” focuses on South Sudanese refugee Martin who meet a bull he believes is his spiritual totem and decides to rescue it from the abattoir he works in. Martin is torn between his ancient cultural identity and his family’s new life in Australia.
