Joint is jumping for International Dance Day

IT’S INTERNATIONAL Dance Day and the joint is jumping — Westside Acton Park, that is.

Launched by ACT Minister for the Arts Joy Burch today, the Ausdance ACT event billed as Canberra’s Biggest Dance Class heralds the start of Australian Dance Week, where everyone can have a go, try something new, and experience the joy of dancing in a nationwide celebration with each state and territory hosting a variety of free performances and classes.

Dance Day will be celebrated at with Canberra’s BIGGEST Dance Jam, a dance class hosted today by local performer, teacher and creator Jamie Winbank.

After that it’s none-stop hoofing until Sunday, May 10.

Ausdance ACT’s long standing partnership with the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets continues with ‘Dance Displays’ on both Saturdays May 2 and 9 with dance of all kinds on the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets stage.

‘Celebrating Seniors’ will also be presented at the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets. If you have always wanted to tap, Ausdance says, here’s your chance. Over 50s can Join the Silver Treads Senior Tap Dancing Group for a try and enjoy experience.

A Dance Week favourite makes a return appearance as Belconnen Arts Centre presents ‘Dance on the Edge’ on the second week, visit belconnenartscentre.com.au for details.

No Lights No Lycra South Canberra present ‘The Good Morning Rave’ at Gorman House Arts Centre this Friday, an energetic morning dance experience filled with music and fun.
