Junkyard fire at Hume

FIGHFIGHTERS have extinguished a fire at SIMS Metal Yard, Alderson Place, Hume.

Fire was contained to a truck that was to transport crushed cars.

The load was dumped onto the yard and crews also used an excavator to help pull the load apart.

There are no injuries and damage to the truck is minor.

ACT Fire & Rescue has two fire pumpers are on scene, two Compressed Air Foam System Tankers (CAFS), the Breathing Apparatus Support Van and two Commanders.

Crews were alerted following multiple Emergency Triple Zero (000) calls from 2.59pm.

Fire crews will depart the scene shortly.

Cause of fire in the load believed to be from car batteries.

Calls to Emergency Triple Zero (000) reported hearing sounds of an explosion.

An LPG cylinder was also heard venting, releasing its contents.
