ALISTAIR Coe says a Canberra Liberals government will complete the duplication of Cotter Road, removing a major bottleneck for residents in the southern suburbs, Woden, Weston Creek and the developing Molonglo Valley.

“The commitment which forms part of the Canberra Liberals comprehensive transport plan will complete the duplication for the 1.7km stretch between McCulloch Street and the Tuggeranong Parkway. The estimated cost of the duplication is $25 million,” Alistair said.

“The Cotter Road is a vital link serving travellers to the City, the Inner South, Woden, Weston Creek and the developing Molonglo Valley and has been scheduled for full duplication for some time now. We want to get this done as soon as possible.

“During peak hours, the road is known to bottleneck between McCulloch Street and the Tuggeranong Parkway. With the continuing development of the Molonglo Valley these bottlenecks will only get worse.

“As a Weston Creek resident, I fully understand the difficulty the Cotter Road creates for commuters on a daily basis. Full duplication is absolutely necessary and will make life a lot easier for Weston Creek and Woden residents,” Leader of the Opposition Jeremy Hanson said.

“The Canberra Liberals will engage extensively with the local community to ensure that this vital infrastructure is built in line with community expectations,” Mr Coe said.

“The duplication of the Cotter Road is another initiative of the Canberra Liberals to help improve transport for all Canberrans, not just the three percent of Canberrans who live within walking distance of a light rail stop,” Mr Coe concluded.
