Local Liberals oppose relocating Canberra’s public servants

jeremy hanson

JEREMY Hanson says the move by Federal Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce to force public service jobs at the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) out of Canberra is vehemently opposed by the Canberra Liberals.

“There has been a tendency of some federal politicians to call for public service jobs to be moved to shore up their own support. They need to remember, they’re playing with public servants lives when they do,” Jeremy said.

“The GRDC deals with grains which are grown right across Australia and it makes sense to have the corporation centralised, rather than moved to one regional centre. Even the peak body Grain Producers Australia is asking questions about why the GRDC should move.

“The Canberra Liberals will always stand up for public service jobs staying in the ACT. Canberra is the home of the public service and it makes sense to have the public service network here and not broken up around the country for political purposes.

“This latest move by Barnaby Joyce shouldn’t go any further. I don’t want to see any public service jobs moved out of Canberra,” Mr Hanson concluded.
