New parking spaces for Cooleman Court

simon corbell

SIMON Corbell says work to relieve parking pressures at the Weston Creek group centre will add 76 new parking spaces.

“These works deliver on an election commitment made by Labor at the last election to upgrade parking facilities at the Weston Creek group centre. Today I’m pleased to deliver on that promise and affirm ACT Labor’s commitment to improving local shopping centres,” Simon said.

“Space for an additional 76 vehicles will be constructed at two car parks at the centre to reduce the pressure on existing car parks and minimise the effects of people parking on nearby streets.”

Dillon Close will receive additional 54 car spaces and Liardet Street will receive 22 car spaces. The works will improve existing parking capacity and allow more people to park close to the centre.

“This will improve access to the Weston Creek group centre and also ensure short term parking is adjacent the centre and long term parking is on the periphery. Pedestrian crossings will also be installed to improve accessibility from the car parking spaces to the shopping centre,” Mr Corbell said.

Temporary traffic control measures, including signage, have been put in place to minimise disruption during the three month construction period. Minor delays are expected, while access to businesses in the area will be maintained at all times.

Work will take place from 7am to 4.30pm on weekdays and from 7am to 1pm on Saturdays.

Construction will be conducted by Cord Civil, and is planned for completion by July 2015.
