Odour sparks Deakin evacuation

FIREFIGHTERS have evacuated a building in Deakin as they investigate an odour at the National Capital Diagnostic Imaging centre.

Approximately 40 people have been evacuated from the building and two patients are being assessed by the ACT Ambulance Service for headache like symptoms.

ACT Fire & Rescue is currently conducting atmospheric monitoring of the building.

Two fire pumpers, the Breathing Apparatus Van, the Hazardous Materials Unit and one Commander is on scene.

The building on Strickland Crescent has been given the all clear and people are allowed to return.

No cause of the odour was found and investigations will continue.

ACT Fire & Rescue has been recalled to the National Capital Diagnostic Imaging centre, on Strickland Cres in Deakin to investigate the odour which has returned to half the building.

Approx. 20 people have been evacuated whilst firefighters investigate the odour.

ACT Ambulance Service is also attending the scene to support operations.

Staff have been allowed to return to the building.

ACT Fire & Rescue will remain on scene for a period and monitor the situation.
