Photowalk this Sunday in the Botanic Gardens

PHOTOWALK is a chance for any person no matter what age or ability to get together and have a lovely walk, get some fresh air and meet other photographically minded people.

“It is meant to be all inclusive whether you own a DSLR, a compact or just a phone-cam. It is often the case that no two photographers’ eye is exactly the same so even though we will be walking the same streets and paths I know we will have a great selection of images that will vary greatly,” said organiser Hilary Wardaugh.

” #photowalkCanberra has been running since 2011 and still going strong.

She says it is not a competition but rather free creative fun.

“It is a way to meet other interesting people to learn a little bit and to have a yarn and a laugh.

“This time we will walk around the ANBG and concentrate on macro photography. Anyone who wants to attempt this genre for the first time are welcommed with open arms! Even if you don’t have a macro lens, we can improvise!

“Photographers then share their creations in our Flickr group. Ownership of the images is retained by each individual and each person is urged to share their creations in the Flickr group with family and friends and through social media with the hastag #photowalkcanberra.

“I have a passion for photography and after 15 years in business I love the fact that my photography can take me to other places; like educating and inspiring people. I get excited if I am helping someone take better photos and all of a sudden the lightbulb goes on and they just get it! It makes me happy when people learn to take better images of their home and their people. Why do I do it for free? It is my way to get the word out that photography and taking photographs has value. It is the one thing people try to save if their house is burning down and it is a record that we were here; we existed. Photography to me is more than a commodity it is a record of our lives and I want people to know this!
