POLICE have confirmed the recent reports of a Canberra teenager being contacted on Facebook by an IS recruiter are false.
Earlier this week the AFP was informed about an approach to a child’s Facebook profile from a person purporting to be from the Middle East.
The AFP is satisfied that it is either spam or innocuous and there is nothing within the request to suggest any connection to any terrorist or militant organisation.
The AFP now considers this matter closed.
Parents concerned over their child’s social media or email accounts being targeted by extremists should contact the National Security Hotline on 1800 123400.
