QUEANBEYAN City Council has launched its Scores on Doors program.

It is the 47th council across NSW to come on board with the program which rates a food premises out of five stars based on its hygiene standards.

17 food businesses in Queanbeyan were yesterday provided Scores on Doors certificates, including The Royal Hotel and The Millhouse, which received five stars; Hot Potch Café, the Queanbeyan Leagues Club and Coffee Corner, which were rated four stars and the popular Queanbeyan Diamond Chinese Restaurant (which is very well-rated on Trip Advisor), three stars, which indicates a good performance.

Queanbeyan Mayor Tim Overall encouraged all food businesses in Queanbeyan to join the Scores on Doors volunteer program. He said Council’s Environmental Health officers had been working closely with businesses over the last six months, helping them improve standards where necessary and still had more to visit.

Director of Environment, Planning and Development, Mike Thompson, said if a business had a certificate which showed less than five stars, the certificate indicated a willingness to work with Council to improve their business and was commendable. He said five stars was excellent, four stars very good and three stars good.

“Look for the certificate on the shop window or door to see the ratings. This system is a real point of difference for Patrons to be able to have some confidence that the business is regularly inspected by Council. Council’s website will soon have this information.

“Food safety is very important as poor practises can lead to outbreaks of poisoning and can even be fatal, I highly commend everyone involved in this initiative, and encourage all Queanbeyan businesses to take advantage of the helpful and free advice from Queanbeyan’s Environmental Health Officers,” Mr Thompson said.
