Road rage in Lyons

police

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a roadside assault and robbery that occurred in Lyons this morning (Friday, February 13).

About 9.10am, while stationary at the intersection of Hindmarsh Drive and Melrose Drive eastbound, the passenger of a red Ford Ranger approached a driver of a maroon Toyota Corolla, opening the driver’s door and verbally abusing him.

The 19-year-old passenger of the Ford Ranger attempted to punch the other driver and grabbed a necklace from the victim’s neck, returning to his car with the necklace.

An off duty police member detained the 19-year-old until police arrived a short time later.

Police are appealing for other drivers who may have witnessed the incident, as it occurred during peak hour traffic at a busy intersection, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
