The seas are alive with the sound of David Hobson – and friends

REMEMBER David Hobson? — His high, crystal clear tenor enchanted audiences around our opera houses in the 1990s and earned him international fame as Rodolfo in Baz Luhrmann’s production of “La Bohème.”

WE haven’t seen him in a major role here in Canberra since 2006 when he toured her as Frederic in the record-breaking Opera Australia production of “The Pirates of Penzance”, and I saw him the same year when he sang the title role in “Candide” by Leonard Bernstein, but he’s been busy performing the difficult roles that his lyric tenor voice demand and playing with companies like the Victorian Opera and composing his own operas, including his version of “Macbeth”.

Most recently He’s performed at “Carols by Candlelight” and reprised his role in “Candide”.

Now Hobson has surfaced again, this time as an ambassador for the Bravo! Cruise of the Performing Arts 2015, billed as ‘a music festival at sea for classic and light music fans to enjoy while cruising around the South Seas’.

The good ship Radiance of the Seas will be setting sail from Sydney in October for eight nights, visiting Mare in New Caledonia, Mystery Island & Noumea—and Hobson will be there.
